「萌え」なるものの正体はなんなのか。萌え現象に詳しい経済アナリスト・森永卓郎氏はこう語る。
「あえて定義するならば萌えとはキャラクター、あるいはキャラ的なものをこよなく愛する事です。今、30代前半男性の非婚率が全国で50%と劇的に上がってるんですね。なぜか。昔は平等社会だったのでほぼ誰もが結婚できた。それが90年代には、男女関係も弱肉強食になって、イケメンでお金持ちほど女性を占有するようになる。すると大半の男性は落ちこぼれる」
